Block board, Teak blocks and Laminate board
Two artificial board names first mentioned above I hear
most often among middle factory indoor furniture maker with a classic,
minimalist design. Block board have almost the same specifications with
plywood. Biggest difference is the number and size of the layer.
Block board
Block board main layer is in the middle of a 20-30mm thickness. Several
pieces of wood with a width of the laminated and coated with several veneers
like to plywood. Veneer arranged transversely the fibers to obtain stability
and holding power of wood shrinkage. Then some of the sheet coated with glue
and pressed under great pressure. That must be considered in the block board
is direction of fiber. Block board still has weaknesses in solid wood, weak
in the transverse direction of wood fiber. Therefore noteworthy block board
surface fiber direction (fiber direction of the surface same with the grain
filling) at the time of sawed boards or design laying of block board.
Teak block
There is only one difference according to my technical knowledge. There are
additional one more layer on one surface block board to add aesthetic value,
namely teak veneer layer. However choose and produce teak block do not like
other kinds of artificial board. With the main reason the factory to buy
teak block, there are some important conditions that must be met:
1. There should be no scratches sharps / blunt teak block above the surface.
Scratches will be visible after the product finished despite the dark
colors. Therefore teak block compilation should be noted, the surface teak
block which coated teak should be contact with the surface which is coated
of teak also.
Why? Surface of non-teak at teak block not a priority so that the control
and handling is less precise. Several sheets can be found overlap that can
cause scratches on the surface of teak.
2. There should be no overlap veneer. Teak Veneer made very thin (up to 0.3
mm) and produced by the method of slicing a solid teak wood. Coating process
at teak block can occur overlapped, these defects have been anticipated by
the manufacturer teak block, but there will always be products that have
this defect. Overlap makes the surface appear bulging and uneven.
3. Veneer peeling
Veneer thickness is very thin and vulnerable to scratches, little impact on
the teak block surface can make veneer peeling and teak block can not be
used.
Laminate board
The composition and size similar to block board, the main difference is in
the middle layer widths. Laminate board use pieces more thin, 5-7mm. These
types of artificial boards widely available in the market, but the factory
and the carpenters were still known as block board.
