Choosing Ruler Elbow
Ruler elbow is the first benchmark of the carpenter's
work in relation to the assembly, stable construction and precision cutting
corners. Hence, if you're planning to buy this tool, should provide a little
more budget to buy quality ruler elbow. An important part that must be seen
before purchase is part of a ruler elbow construction. To be seen whether a
single unit consisting of iron or there is a connection of two steel rods.
In the case of the main function to determine the 'elbow or not' a
corner-cutting, material made from a single unit is the best, because the
material will be stable ruler.
While the elbow ruler made of 2 different blades are risk of angle no longer
at 90° (elbow) due to construction problems connecting. Accuracy of elbow
angle on the ruler of this type can be changed. However, there are some
products although made from 2 different blades but have high quality in the
construction of the link so we do not have to worry about the risk of
changes in angle. Length printed (in) the elbow ruler should be examined of
truth by comparing caliper or better other gauge. And make sure that the
zero starting at the end of the ruler elbow.
How to
1. To check whether the wood shavings of the engine / manual have the elbow
angle or not, stick to one side of the ruler of the elbow on one side of the
over shaved wood. Then move your ruler elbow sliding along the rod of wood
and along direction fiber while pressing one side on the side of the timber.
If there is a gap between the rulers with the wood surface so the result
shaving has not elbow (90 °).
2. Outer angle section ruler elbow have function also to check the sharpness
of the corner of furniture. For example to check whether the angle surface
top kitchen table was elbow to the wall. Place the ruler's elbow on the
kitchen table leaf surfaces and move along the table, and note the gap in
the wall ruler with elbow.
3. Usually there are measures in inches or mm scale on each ruler elbow. Try
to use these measures to the maximum extent possible. Nominal figures
usually starts zero at the end of the ruler elbow. This will be very
effective to measure the depth of the hole (pen & construction hole) you are
doing. Insert tip of a ruler into the hole and patch the stick ruler into
the side of the hole to see the numbers right. This method is helpful
especially for pen hole with a narrow width that can not be done by using
the tip of the meter, except caliper.
Calibration Ruler Elbow
One simple way to check are your ruler elbow still really angle 90°. Use a
piece of wood that was shaved smooth and make sure that the timber straight.
Make a cross on one side with a ruler's position on the left elbow.
Transverse lines must be made on the outside. Then turn the ruler the elbow
(mirror) with the shaft still on the same position of the timber and place
the outside of the elbow rulers in the line that had been made. If the
tangent line or across the outside of the ruler elbow, so the tool that no
longer has good point. If the lines are parallel means that your elbow ruler
is still good and can be used.
