Log Wood conversion to sawn timber

Often when we talk about the volume of timber, we should equate the first 'language' is used. Is that volume for sawn timber or wood logs? Why? Because the volume of 100 m³ logs does not mean 100 m³ of sawn timber, but it could mean 50, 60 or 70 m³ of sawn timber. The difference is also determined by the method of sawing, log-sectional shape and size lumber desired. The term is often used a variety such as recovery, yield, waste, and etc. In essence, all the terms and calculations to count how many m3 logs required to produce each cubic meter of sawn wood.
Log Volume
Log volume is calculated based on the extensive multiplication of the length to log-sectional shape when cut into several pieces of boards or blocks, the total volume of logs will be split into several parts of the largest block, and wood chips and sawdust. Log volume formula is 3.14 x (cross-sectional area) x (length logs).

Example:
Diameter (Ø) a log of wood is 40cm (0.40 m) with a length of 2.5 meters.
Volume of logs = 3.14 x (0.20 cm x 0.20 m) x 2.5 m.
Volume logs = 3.14 x 0,040 x 2.5 m = 0,314 m³.
Logs are split into several blocks of wood sticks that generate 11 effective logs can be used as raw materials furniture (see picture) with details as follows:
3.5 x 18 x 250 cm (7 bar) = 0.110 m³
4 x 20 x 250 cm (1 stick) = 0.02 m³
4 x 30 x 250 cm (1 stick) = 0.03 m³
4 x 12 x 250 cm (2 sticks) = 0.024 m³
The total volume of sawn timber = 0.184 m³

From the above calculations you can see that only the 0.184 m³ of sawn timber, so if we convert to:
Volume of sawn timber: logs of wood volume, that is: 0.184: 0.585 = 0.314 = 58.5%
This means from 100% the volume of timber logs, only get 58.5% of the sawn timber. The remaining 41.5% had become wood chips and sawdust. This percentage is not an absolute value because it can change higher or lower depending on various factors such as type of wood, wood-sectional shape and method of sawing.
