Making Mal/Jig of Wood and Gap 7-12 mm
We have talked about how the process of
making a curved chair leg from the initial raw material sawn timber to the
process of sandpaper. Then how can we get these malls? Designer with all the
power of imagination will create forms as beautiful as possible without too
much considering the technical process. In this process a challenge in the
production to make a way out.
1:1 Scale
We need 2 dimensional images of the actual size scale, also called 1:1 scale
showing the arch at the right size. This image should be printed on regular
paper (80-90 grams) sizes A2, A1 or A0 in accordance with the size of work
piece that is being prepared. Usually general printing can help by giving
them an image file. From the results of print out, we cut such as picture
and attached to plywood 4-6mm thick.
Copy
From a model mall / jig that we make over this plywood, and cut plywood
(manual) according to the picture. To reproduce the mall we use the master
jig in a manner similar to the way in production by using the band saw
machine.
Material
Materials mal / jig should is made of plastic, MDF or plywood that is stable
and can be used any longer.
Mal / Jig Care
If most of the products you sell is required the mall for the production,
should be created for special storage of hanging racks. Then on a shelf that
can be given a special label in accordance with product codes that require
the mall. In addition to the search easier when needed again, that way
storage will maintain the quality of the mall / jig better.
Gap 7-12mm, What Is It?
There is a process of checking on wood furniture products especially for
chairs and tables before the product is manufactured and marketed. Some
furniture importing countries (mainly European) using an international
standard EN 581 with the code. These standards there are several chapters
with different specifications. Chapters 1 provide rules about consumer
safety standards in general. This means that a guideline for manufacturers,
designers to the engineers in the production room to attention the results
with the thinking of the product details such as the gap between the 2
sticks, or hole is formed because of the design and construction.
Sharp edges
This rule tells that every corner of the wood furniture that we make must be
clean from the sharp corners that have the potential to injure your fingers
or other parts when the product is used. For example corner table needs to
emery a little or made rounded so not too sharp. Purchaser will be very
concerned about the details such as when they buy furniture for their
children which children skin more sensitive to scratches.
Gap 7-12mm
Imagine there are two sticks in your seat is located parallel to, the gap
between these 2 sticks have to pay attention to this rule. Considering the
size of an adult human finger either Asia or Europe, the gap is not 7-12mm.
It would be better wider so that the human finger in the gap will not be
stuck. Or better for less than 7mm so there is no possibility for the human
finger in and stuck in the gap.
Potential Position
Some details of products that have the potential of this problem for
example:
- Drill hole for the screw that head screws into the wood
- The gap between the spokes of wood on the window blinds, outdoor chairs,
top tables and other.
- Gap in the door with the side wall cabinet
- The distance between the shelves table with top table
In Indonesia (consumer Indonesia) average still not attending to details
because of consumer protection is still weak here. Consumers more focus on
price and aesthetics of quality furniture product. For our export furniture
industry, this knowledge will be greatly appreciated by the buyers and will
provide added value for the entire production team and planning. Another
benefit is to the knowledge and application in everyday life. There will be
a good idea if we look a little more detail about the safety aspects of all
existing furniture in the house.
