Making Plywood (Multiplex) and Briquette Wood
Initial process is basically the same as
the process of making wood veneer because plywood is made from a layer a few
sheets veneer. Artificial board manufacturing, in this case the multiplex,
is a continuation of the manufacturing process veneer.
Choosing Log
The first step in the manufacture of artificial board is to select the log.
Log chosen based on straightness and it diameter round or not. Well logs for
plywood manufacture are free of knots.
Debarking to Veneer Drying
This process is exactly as described in veneer process.
Gluing
Application materials using roller coater systems and glue adhesive used are
urea resins type or phenol-Formaldehyde. Type of glue that contains
formaldehyde is less well known to health and the environment in which
chemicals are used to make this glue can cause cancer. That is why some
large consumers today require furniture manufacturers use artificial board
that is free formaldehyde content in a way to test regularly. There are
several standard measurement and methods of testing for these chemicals.
Highest grade is E0, which means ZERO emissions. Then there are grade E1, E2
and so on.
Pressing
Veneer layers are arranged under the press machine with high pressure until
the desired thickness. A plywood press machine can load 50 sheets plywood at
once for single tap 3-4 minutes. There are different types of glue, can be
done by 2 pressing different methods, hot press and cold press.
Hot Press: Commonly done to plywood with softwood raw materials with the
temperature reaching 120 ° C for nearly 10 minutes. Accuracy presses time,
high pressure and temperature is very important in this process.
Cold Press: Done with a hydraulic press or swivel. Type of glue is used
usually a resin or urea-formaldehyde which has a longer drying process.
Presses performed during 4-24 hours.
Cutting, Sanding
Plywood sheets that have been dried then cut to fit the standard length and
width direction. Plywood surface smoothed with sanding machines and
production defects cleaned or repaired.
Quality Control
There is a high grade of plywood, known as a quality standard A to C. A
representing the highest quality and C is the lowest quality. Quality
standards for plywood, among others: there is no overlap veneer or peeling,
color and fiber of wood and plywood accuracy thickness.
Briquette Wood
At least 15% of the logs woods you buy become sawdust and shavings after the
production process to finished goods. What is usually done by a furniture
factory for this waste? For factory that waste output is not too much can
still get a way out by way of selling to collectors and then the powder they
use for various household purposes. Some people even need powder to help the
process of burning bricks or tiles. On a visit to the wood factory last
week, I saw a small production of wood briquettes. A few years before had
ever seen a similar process but in a special place is the size of the room
is used for making wood briquettes.
For what are wood briquettes? In winter, European countries and the United
States use fireplace to heat the rooms in the house. They could use solid
wood, both wood left over from processing wood or new felled forests but the
more expensive and considering the policy of these countries about the
environment, wood briquettes to be the best alternative and cheaper. Back to
the furniture factories that make briquettes, this could be a good idea for
most furniture factories in Indonesia to collect all the wood waste and
process it into briquettes. Although the actual this waste can be used by
manufacturers of artificial board or plywood. The difficulty that I have
heard from furniture businessman is still limited manufacturer of making
machine wood briquettes so that its price becomes expensive. One of the
retailers for this product is Irishbiofuels. Briquettes or firewood has
market potential is high enough considering the price of fuel today's high
enough. Consumers in subtropical countries tend to reduce consumption of oil
as heating fuel.
