Test the Strength of Wood Glue
Glue the wood and application method to be the most
important part in the process of the wood work, especially wood for
furniture.
As a technical major choices and methods of connection, play a very large
wood glue in terms of determining the strength of wood construction. This
article will only discuss the type of wood glue PVAc (Polyvinyl Acetate) or
better known as white glue, because it was white.
To see how strong the glue that you use on wood furniture, let us see some
practical methods.
1. Cross Grain - The illustration below is gluing 2 sticks of wood without
any construction. Once the glue is completely dry, give the pressure on the
shaft of the cross with the pressure gradually in several different thrust
forces.
From each of these steps, observe the connection and the last condition
moving timber when the connection is open because of pressure. By using the
same type of glue from a different brand, you will find a particular brand
has a different resistance.
2. Unidirectional Fiber - From a block of wood, cut with
a cut angle of approximately 15-20 degrees. Then reconnect the two pieces of
wood using white glue. Appropriate connections in the former sawmill.
Once the glue is completely dry, tie a piece of wood so do not moving and
the pressure on the other hand gradually until the two are separate logs as
slaughtering line (or sometimes wood fibers come open).
3. Soaking - This method is more suitable for testing the
glue on outdoor furniture (garden furniture). Two sticks with the same size
superimposed into a single (exact lamination process) and wait until
completely dry.
Then the laminated wood is soaked in water to seep water would affect the
connection. A good quality glue will usually last longer.
Of course there are some other methods are more accurate and the actual that
you can use. In practical terms, of the three methods above will be
immediately known type of glue which one is better and in accordance with
needs.
To produce a fair and clear reset, there are some specific tips to consider:
1. Use the same type of wood hardness (density) that is not much different.
2. Normal wood glue should be allowed to dry 24 hours after grafting, but
there are several brands and types of certain white glue that has a 'drying
time' is different. We recommend that you follow the instructions carefully.
3. Size of timber for testing must also be equal in order to have a
relatively equal pressure.
4. Perform application of glue application in the same way on all the wood
tested.
5. Pressure point distance with the central point should be the same
connection, so the moment is equally acceptable.
