Using Oil Finishing
Finishing oil is usually used for outdoor furniture.
Besides lower cost, oil very easy to application. Oil characteristics more
watery than the other finishing materials and easily seep into the wood
pores. As we have seen that basically finishing is to protect the wood from
re-entry of water into the timber so as to make the wood more stable form.
Finishing with even this material meets the basic requirements for
finishing.
Materials oil which is the most simple application process, the average soak
system (dipping) or flush (wiping) make the most of the volume of oil seep
into the wood pores and forming a layer of 'block' on the wood surface. That
is why it is rather difficult to get quality smooth or glossy surfaces. Oil
infiltration sometimes make fuzz on wood stand and make the wood surface was
more rough.
But we can do so again when dry sanding using a fine grit sandpaper (above
320).
Raw materials including cheap oil when calculated per liter. Here we must be
careful at the time of application. The process that is less true of raw
materials could lead to wasteful and led to the high cost of finishing.
Efficiency
Try drums of raw materials is always closed to reduce the volume of
evaporation, especially when the air temperature is high enough. If the drum
shape possible, simply create a small hole to reduce evaporation.
In the process of dipping (immersion) is immersion tank should be large
enough, in this case we can create special channels in the tank for waste
products that flood the component can flow back into the tank so that no
material is completely wasted or littered the floor that could lead to
production soil pollution.
Finishing space should be made so the wind does not move too big.
Cloths used need to be drained back when no longer used, so that the
finishing materials that are still attached to the fabric is not wasted.
Quality
Perhaps the most difficult problems in the finishing oil is a matter of
color. We face this problem if you use a wooden pig mixed patio timber.
Materials oil which is generally only one color or natural wood color is
unable to cover the younger pig. To overcome this problem we can do before
staining using the dye (stain) as used in NC type of finishing.
Stain was applied only on the surface of a light wood to match the color.
Previously you could check with the seller about the color stain that is
most appropriate for the type of wood you use. After that immersion process
can be done.
For best results wiping should be done at least twice and sanded smooth.
After that you can do the scrubbing using cardboard paper (brown) to get a
little shiny effect.
The risk of using this type of finishing material is drying time. Packing
material can be attached to the work piece and somewhat difficult to remove.
Pros: Easy application, cheap, fast and durable
Disadvantages: The surface is less smooth, hard to color match.
Health & Safety
The raw material oil is very dangerous and flammable. It is important to
strictly there should be no smoking in the vicinity of the location of
finishing. Materials spilled, or because of excessive hoarding of old cloth
that falls to the ground will cause soil pollution. This should be avoided.
As a form of responsibility is also on the health of employees, workers who
work directly in this area must always use synthetic gloves, rubber or
synthetic shoes and a mask covering the nose to aid breathing.
