Wood Cuttermark
Visit a sawmill wood and try to see one of the board that
had just split. You will see that the surface of the board / block is still
rough, a lot of lines made by the saw blade movement during cleavage. Lines
are worth mentioning cutter mark. Or a block of wood you just bought in a
store building, there would still cutter mark. This is the result of an
initial process where the wood processing level / grade roughness will vary
depending on the location, type of machine, wood species and also how the
operators make the settings on the machine and engine operation pattern.
Scars would be different if using different types of knives. Cutter mark is
one of the basic problems in the processing of solid wood, especially wood.
At the level of high-quality furniture that requires delicacy and planeness
wood surface, the slightest cutter mark must be eliminated.
How Cutter mark formed?
At the time of working machines to cut / chop wood, the vibrations from the
engine cycle, the pressure unstable operator or pressure that use 'feeder'
too quick to take a role work piece created cutter mark. We do not need to
discuss cutter mark found on sawn wood too deeply because it would be
through further processing to make it more subtle. Which will be discussed
more in cutter mark here is happen when crab process. For the process of the
most ideal wood, push the speed must be balanced with the blade rotation
speed of the machine. The faster the spin the knife, then at a push speed
that does not changes the more subtle also shaved wood surfaces.
Simple example:
For example a machine knife crab has a 4500 rpm speed (Round per Minute) and
performed with speed and thrust of 10 meters / minute, the blades will be
spinning as much as 4 - 5 times round to cut the wood along the 1 cm each
way. If the engine rev to 6,000 rpm plus it is to cut 1 cm long, blade will
rotate as many as up to 6 times. Automatic wood surface will become smoother
with more frequent cutting knife.
Cutter mark at crab process looked more like a smooth wave when you slipshod
can be seen clearly only after the work piece into the finishing room.
Therefore the process of sanding required before the finishing process. Some
tips to reduce the effects of cutter mark (especially on the processing crab
/ molding:
1. Use the machine on a normal engine rotation speed according to the
manufacturer recommended.
2. In the non-machine fully automatic, push the work piece with the current
speed. Calculate the theoretical speed that you should apply to push and if
you've experienced the same machine, will be felt if the push was a little
heavy or increased engine sound (wailing) means you've pushed too fast work
piece.
3. Setting the size of the thickness of the wood to be shaved. Thinner will
reduce cutter mark due to the weight of the engine becomes lighter. The
ideal thickness is between 1-3 mm.
4. Use the knife shaft with more blades. More then the blade should be
shaved to be less for each blade.
5. For blade configuration in large numbers, make sure that the 'height of
the blades' are identical to each other so that each blade to work
optimally.
6. Always use a sharp blade.
